Presentments : —
1. Thomas Walmsley for laying a Dunghill in the Backweend by means whereof the King's Highway there is greatly straitned and obstructed and the same is a Common Nusance; And if he do not remove the same in Two days after notice We amerce him in Five shillings.
2. James Taylor for laying a Dunghill at the End of the Backlane leading into the ffryergate which is a great Annoyance to the High road there and if not removed in Two days after Notice We Amerce him in Five Shillings.
3. Thomas Livesay, Willm Carwell, James Jameson and Thos Threlfall for severally laying their Dunghill in the open Street below Fryergate Barrs being a Comon Nusance; And if they do not severally remove the same in Two days after Notice We Amerce each Defaulter in Five Shillings.
4. Mr Richard Butler for laying Wood in the Kings's highway in ffishergate Lane which greatly annoys and obstructs the said Road and is very dangerous to persons passing and repassing in and thro' the said Road particularly in the night time and is a Common Nusance; And if he do not remove the said wood in Ten days after notice We Amerce him in Twenty shillings.
5. Mr Wm Woodcock for the like Offence And if not removed in the like Time We amerce him in the like Sum.
6. Wm Walmsley for the like Offence And if not removed in the like time We Amerce him in he like Sum.
7. John Blackledge, James Tootell, and Wm. Wood (the Bridge Undertakers), for not Carting and carrying away but suffering large Quantitys of Stone to lye in the King's Highroad betwixt the Bridge at the bottom of the ffishergate Lane and the new bridge over Ribble, by means whereof the Highway there is much Damaged, Straitned, and obstructed, and in many places become deep and founderous; and if they do not remove the said Stone in fourteen days after Notice We amerce them in Thirty nine shillings and elevenpence.
8. Isaac Cook for not making a sufficient Road by the Riverside that is almost impassable and a Comon Nusance and if he does not lay a Platt or Bridge betwixt the two fields he possesses so that people may pass safely if not done in Seven days after Notice We amerce him in 39s.
9. Isaac Cook for want of a sufficient Plat betwixt the field in his possession & the Broad Meadow and if not done in ffourteen days after notice We amerce him in 10s.
10. Mr Richd Burton for the like Offence betwixt the Corner Cap and the field adjoining and if not done in the like time We amerce him in the like sum.
11. Edmd Helme, Mr Wm Green, Mr Wm Stuart, Mr Andrew ???, Mr James ??? & Nicholas Winckley Esq., for not severally opening their Ditches and scouring their Watercourses at the bottom of their several and respective Gardens For want of wch the Foot road leading from the Minspitweend towards the Sykes is frequently overflowed and rendered impassable and is much impaired and damaged; And if they do not severally open & scour the same in four days after notice We Amerce each defaulter in 5s.
12. Mr John Gibson for not opening the Watercourse leading across the Lane from his ffield to the Titmouse Orchard which occasions the Lane to be frequently overflowed; And We order the same to be done in fourteen days after Notice or we amerce him in 5s.
13. Roger Fishwick for not raising the Platt in order to receive the Water wch comes from Mr Gibson's field across the Road and should go under such Platt and from thence be conveyed down the Titmouse Orchard; And if not done in 14 Days after Notice We amerce him in 10s.
14. We also present him for not Dubbing the Hedge at Titmouse Orchard, which hangs over and encroaches upon the Road leading towards the Workhouse, And if not done in fourteen days after Notice We amerce him in five shillings.
15. Henry Brewer Senr for not cutting his Hedges at the Albin Heys but suffering the same to hang over and prejudice the foot road leading from Preston to ffishwick; And if not done in a Week after notice We Amerce him in ffive shillings.
16. Mr Robt Calland, Mr Isaac Cross and Henry Brewer the Elder for severally laying their Dunghills in Saint John's Lane And if not severally removed in a week after Notice We Amerce each Defaulter in ffive shillings.
17. Thos Grundy for laying his Dung in the Backweend and if not removed in a Week after Notice We amerce him in ffive shillings.
18. We also present him for suffering his Carts frequently to Stand out all night in the Back Weend And amerce him for such Offence in 5s.
19. Thomas Wilson and Widow Gradwell for severally laying their Dunghills in the Backweend And if not removed in a Week after Notice We Amerce them in 5s. each.
20. The Viewers of Flesh and Fish for neglecting their Duty and suffering unwholesome Meat for Man's body to be Exposed to Sale in the public Markets of this Borough contrary to their Duty and Oath by them taken And We leave the Amerciament to Mr Mayor's discretion.
21. The Serjeants of this Borough for suffering Strollers to beg through the Town without produceing legal passes.
22. Henry Brewer the Scavinger for neglecting his duty in not Cowling and cleaning the public Streets of this Town And for such his neglect We amerce him in 39s.
23. We also present him for not laying a sufft Plat over the Watercourse betwixt Mr Blundell's Land and Mr Charnock's Land leading the foot way to the Moor And if not done in Ten days after notice We amerce him in 10s.
24. The Bailiffs of this Borough for not repairing the Causway in the Fryergate near the Dwelling House in Mr Richd Assheton's possession, the causeway facing the Dwelling house of Mrs Astley in Churchgate as also for not repairing the Causways in the Backweend And if not done in Twenty Days after Notice We amerce 'em in 39s.
25. George Ryley the Younger and Richard Eastham for laying each a Dunghill near the Churchgate Barrs And if not removed in Ten days after notice We Amerce each Defaulter in 10s.
