Presentments : —

1. Richard Pedder from the penalty of the second presentmt of the last Court Leet, it appeareing unto us that he now has not nor for two yeares last past has had any Apprentice.

2. Thomas Martin (one of the present Bayliffes of this Towne) and Hugh Gurnall for not laying a sufficient ffoot bridge over the Brooke called Graystocke brooke, in the ffoot way leading from this town (in and through the grounds in their possion) to Cowford bridge, And do amerce them in the sume of Sixe shillings and Eight pence a peece if not well and sufficiently done betwixt and the Tenth day of March next.

3. The prsent Bayliffes of this Towne for letting Goose well and the well over agt John Claytons house att the bottam of the churchgate be out of Repaire, And doe amerce them in Ten shillings a peece if not both of them to bee well repaired att or before the first day of May next.

4. The psons followeing for not Repaireing their Cawseys before their Barnes and Stables in the ffishergate betwixt the Barrs and Almeshouse there vizt. Mr Alderman Addison, John Hodgkinson butcher and Mr John ffrancks according to the nineteene prsentmt of the last Jury Leet and doe order the severall ffynes of thirteen shillings and four pence a peece therein mencd and on them imposed to stand And we doe further prsent and Amerce the aforesaid psons in the further Sumes of six shillings and eight pence a peece As alsoe Mr Thomas Clayton in the like Sume of Six shillings and eight pence if Hee and they doe not severally well and sufficiently amend and repaire his and their Cawseys before his and their said Barnes and Stables att and before the ffirst day of May next.

5. Wee haveing psented John Shaw, the present miller at the windy mill, neare the end of the ffryergate in this Towne, for grindeing corn upon the Sabath day, not haveing any necessity soe to doe, and therefore Amerced him in the sume of Six shillings and eight pence; And for every other wilfull offence thereafter we do hereby impose upon him the further sume of six shillings and eightpence; But he appearing and makeing a Submission, wee as far as in us lyes doe remitt and pardon the ffirst offence, but order the latter penalty to stand in case of future default.

6. The Supvisors of the Highwayes within this Town for not repaireing the Highway according to the Twenty eight prsentmt of the last Jury from the end of the New Cawsey neare the Pinfoulds and John Bayleys house on Spitle mosse and therefore Wee doe order the ffine therein imposed to stand And further doe ffine them in the Sume of Twenty shillings if they cause not the same to bee well and sufficiently repaired att and before the Twenty fourth day of June next.

7. The said Supvisors for suffering he Cart way att the west end of Spitle mosse aforesaid to be out of repaire and doe amerce them in the like Sume of Twenty shillings if they cause not the same to bee well repaired betwixt and the Twenty fifth day of March next.

8. Ann Hall widdow and Thomas Letmore for diverting and turning the antient watercourse att Jane Walmsleys house and doe order them to lay open the same before the Tenth day of March next on paine of Tenn shillings a peece.

9. The severall psons hereafter named for that they did not appeare att this court Leet after being duly summoned by the Sarjeant not haveing craved and had leave from Mr Maior or Mr Recorder for their absence And therefore doe Amerce each of them to pay Three shillings and four pence a peece. vizt.

10. The severall psons hereafter menconed being Inhabitants and not free of this corporacon and doe order that they severally remove out of Towne upon notice given them by the Sarjt or Compound and agree with Mr Maior and the Councell for their ffreedoms before the ffirst day of May next on paine of tenn shillings apeece. vizt.

11. The Exectrs of Thomas Addison Skinner deced and Richard Graddwell for laying Timber and other wood in the ffryergate and suffering the same to lye there as a Nusance to the damage of the Inhabitants of this corporacon And doe amerce them in the severall Summes of six shillings and eight pence a peece if they cause not the same to be removed before the Tenth day of March next haveing due notice for that purpose.

12. Upon the Examinacon of Sundry wittnesses, before us wee fine and prsent Andrew Dandy Gent for that hee has erected a New pale on the East side of his Garden in Cheetham backside the which in some parts thereof encroacheth upon or into the Comon ffootway leading out of the church street unto Syke hill and hindring the cart way to Mr Alderman Lemons ground and Mr Samuel Wilsons Kilne And therefore doe Order him to lay open or remove the same, also to obey and pforme such order and direction as Mr Maior and any two of the Aldermen shall think fitt to make therein att or before the ffifteenth day of Aprill next upon paine of Thirty shillings And wee doe further Order that the said Mr Wilson or his Tennants shall well and sufficiently Cutt and lopp his Hedge over against the said New pale att and before the said ffifteenth day of Aprill next on paine of Six shillings and Eight pence.

13. Richard Jackson and Elizabeth Tootell widdow for not scoureing their ditches and lopping their hedges att the side of Alston Meadow and therefore doe Order the fyne in the twelth and thirteenth prsentmts of the last Jury Leet to stand And doe amerce them in the further Sume of thirteene shillings and four pence a peece if they cause not the same done betwixt and the ffifteenth of March next.

14. The severall psons hereafter named for harbouring and takeing in I[n]mates into their house Contrary to Law And Amerce them in fforty shillings apeece vizt.

Nathaniel Etough for harbouring two children borne in Tarleton or Hesketh Banck which wee beleive may become burthensome to the Towne.

Mary Sudell widdow of Henry Sudell decd for harbouring a child of some stranger not known to us whose it is.
